Introduction

The International and Scientific Cooperation office in the University of Isfahan started its activities in its present form a few years after the university was founded. Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the establishment of the Islamic Republic, this office extended its activities to include international scientific collaborations, international conferences, bursary affairs and sabbatical leaves as well as the issues related to international students and teachers and also ceremonial events.

Inculcating the necessity of international collaborations for the university

The University of Isfahan has entered into more than 70 contracts on scientific collaborations with various universities worldwide namely universities based in Germany, Armenia, Spain, England, Italy, Turkey, China, Japan, Sweden, Syria, Iraq, France, Canada, Lebanon, Malaysia and Indian. Following are the pivotal areas around which general or detailed agreements are concluded:

Conducting joint research projects

Contributing in scientific conferences and gatherings

Exchanging educational materials and other scientific information

Conducting special short-term programs and occasional joint courses

Exchanging students

Other scientific and research activities agreed upon by both universities

Moreover, the office is responsible for drawing up executive contracts and developing partnerships with international centers, institutions and faculties with regard to the technical priorities of the university units and based on the terms agreed upon in the memorandums of understanding.

The Coordinators of University Relations with International Universities and academic centers

The coordinators of the university relations with universities in other countries are faculty members of the university who are quite familiar with the universities of a given country and its neighbor countries thanks to their having studied there and their mastery over the spoken language of the respective country. They are the chancellor’s advisors on the affairs related to the respective countries. They also cooperate with the office of international relationships on facilitating communications with those countries.

It should be noted that the coordinators of University relations with international universities are assigned by the chancellor’s directive.
